In my continued commitment to grassroots development, I worked on a project under the Bandera Farmers Network International, focused on long-term transformation in the Kamuli community. Unlike many community development interventions that become difficult to trace after a few years, this initiative was intentionally designed to build lasting impact—starting from children and extending to their families.
The project recognized that improving the lives of smallholder farmers is incomplete without addressing the needs and potential of their children. Our approach combined early childhood education, life skills development, and community engagement. Through the Bandera School Program, we created a space where children—once too shy to speak—are now confidently sharing their learning and even teaching back. I personally experienced this transformation during a weekend session, where children joyfully engaged me in what they had learned, showcasing their growth and confidence.
We also launched a holiday games and learning program aimed at enhancing cognitive skills among children, led by our dedicated trainer, Elizabeth Nagasha. These structured activities are helping to strengthen thinking capacity and social skills while reinforcing educational content.
This project continues to grow through the support of our partners and community leaders, all working together to bridge the gap between agricultural livelihoods and education as a pathway to generational change.
